Immunity-Boosting Tonic: 1 Recipe, 3 Ways

Updated: Aug 24

It's officially fall, which means it's time to increase your intake of immunity-boosting foods to fight seasonal colds. Citrus fruits are my favorite way to ward off diseases as the temperature drops. Whether you like tea or smoothies, this immunity-boosting tonic will keep you safe all season:

Immunity-Boosting Tonic: 3 Ways

  • ½ pineapple

  • 1 orange

  • 1 lemon

  • 1 knob of fresh ginger

  • 1 knob of fresh turmeric

Boil a pot of water, and add all of your ingredients. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover with a lid. Let the tonic heat on low for at least an hour.

Drink As Cold Water

  1. Turn off the tonic and let it cool completely.

  2. Use a strainer to remove all pulp.

  3. Pour cooled water in a pitcher and refrigerate.

Drink As Hot Tea Or Hot Toddy

  1. Grab your favorite green or jasmine tea.

  2. Add ginger, honey, and lemon to a teacup. Adding whiskey or bourbon is optional.

  3. Use the tonic as the water for your tea.

  4. Let your tea steep for at least 5 minutes.

Drink In A Smoothie

  • 1 cup of almond milk

  • 1 banana, frozen

  • mango, frozen

  • handful of pulp from the tonic

  • handful of kale

  • natural sweetener like dates

  1. Once you have strained the tonic, remove some of the pulp from your pineapple, orange, and lemon, and add it to a blender.

  2. Combine all ingredients.

  3. Blend and enjoy!
