It's officially fall, which means it's time to increase your intake of immunity-boosting foods to fight seasonal colds. Citrus fruits are my favorite way to ward off diseases as the temperature drops. Whether you like tea or smoothies, this immunity-boosting tonic will keep you safe all season:
Immunity-Boosting Tonic: 3 Ways
½ pineapple
1 orange
1 lemon
1 knob of fresh ginger
1 knob of fresh turmeric
Boil a pot of water, and add all of your ingredients. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover with a lid. Let the tonic heat on low for at least an hour.
Drink As Cold Water
Turn off the tonic and let it cool completely.
Use a strainer to remove all pulp.
Pour cooled water in a pitcher and refrigerate.
Drink As Hot Tea Or Hot Toddy
Grab your favorite green or jasmine tea.
Add ginger, honey, and lemon to a teacup. Adding whiskey or bourbon is optional.
Use the tonic as the water for your tea.
Let your tea steep for at least 5 minutes.
Drink In A Smoothie
1 cup of almond milk
1 banana, frozen
mango, frozen
handful of pulp from the tonic
handful of kale
natural sweetener like dates
Once you have strained the tonic, remove some of the pulp from your pineapple, orange, and lemon, and add it to a blender.
Combine all ingredients.
Blend and enjoy!
